'At the top of Patella Hill (we will reach it by following the relevant sign once we pass Agios Efstratios) we will encounter perhaps the most important military monument on the island. The Parabolic Acoustic ''Mirror'' (Operazione Acoustic Mirror). A construction designed and implemented by the Italian Royal Navy during the period of Italian rule of the island. The soldiers in the trenches tried to listen and identify the direction of possible incoming enemy warplanes and notify the central command. One could also call it a primitive radar (which was discovered a few years later during the Second World War). It is the only one in Greece and has been designated a cultural heritage monument. It was restored in 2016 by Luciano Alberghini Maltoni, AIAL, and the Municipality of Leros. Fifty meters lower we will encounter the air defense installations of the Italian Naval Base.
