Agia Marina is the most important settlement and capital of the island. It includes the settlements of Agia Marina, Platanos and Panteli. Since 1978 it has been characterized as a traditional settlement with a multitude of ancient, Byzantine and post-Byzantine monuments, and many neoclassical buildings and houses. The castle of Panteli, the fortress of Bourtzi, several churches, mainly the homonymous church of Agia Marina, the windmill on the sea and many buildings such as the Malachiion kindergarten, the Nikolaideion girls' school, the Bellenion high school, etc. stand out.
