In the courtyard of the Bellenion Gymnasium, two busts stand out. One is of Parisis Bellenis, the benefactor who built the Gymnasium in 1955. The second is in honor of the Lerian fighter Apostolos Evangelos, who was executed by the German occupiers in 1942, at the age of just 27, due to his resistance activities.
