In 2008, a major drilling project took place to set up climbing routes in Santorini, financed by an EU program. Andreas Koutroumpis was responsible for its design and implementation. Approximately 120 routes were set up in the seven areas of the island. The best times for climbing in Santorini are spring, fall, and winter. All routes are equipped with stainless steel rivets and resin. Santorini climbing is divided into two areas, Kamari and Perissa. Each area is subdivided into sectors, and each sector is split up into numbered routes. So, for example, route SAN 1-1-7 corresponds to the following: Santorini area 1 (Kamari), sector 1, route 7. At the beginning of each route, there is an informative sign with data and a grade.
