At 950 meters altitude, Kastri is the best known and largest of the villages that make up the Kastritochoria. (It had 2,000 inhabitants in 1930.) Of special interest are the stone houses (built by the incomparable craftsmen of the village), the picturesque little roads, and the imposing church of Saint Nicholas (Agios Nikolaos).
