A beautiful village on a verdant slope in a valley. The old village, Megachora, was built higher up, but today all that is left of it is the Byzantine church of Saint John (Agios Ioannis), with its remarkable religious paintings. Unfortunately it is not easily accessible, because it is on private land. From Kato (Lower) Kastania, we can visit Ano (Upper) Kastania, the beautiful cave of Agios Andreas (or Saint Andrew, also called Kastania Cave), and the two seaside villages of Panagitsa and Varko, with their very lovely beaches.
