Mount Pyrgos is east of Sidirokastro. Thanks to Dimitris Mastakouris, the path to the top (at 630 meters) was improved (15 minutes’ climb). The view from there is amazing.

At the top of Pyrgos, the ruins of the castle and the settlement are visible. As Nikolaos Drandakis and Eleni Doris of the archaeological society wrote in their book ‘Research in Lower Mani’ (‘Erevna stin Kato Mani’), the ruins are from the Byzantine era.

The church of Saint George (Agios Georgios) on the slope of Mount Pyrgos must date back to Byzantine times. It is one of the megalithic monuments of Mani from the 10th to 13th centuries.
