Info

The islet of Metopi is located between two islands in the Saronic Gulf, Agistri and Aegina. More specifically, it is 2.5 nautical miles southwest of the port of Aegina and 1 nautical mile northeast of the Cape of Saint George (Agios Georgios) of Agistri. Metopi is uninhabited; there are only the country church of the Saints Theodore (Agion Theodoron) and some vineyards there. On the southeastern side of the islet, there is a very beautiful little beach with white sand and shallow blue-green water. (On the beach’s eastern side, the water is still shallow, but very dangerous.)

Islet of Metopi

Metopi is a common stop for the Saronic Gulf’s sea turtles (which are depicted on the coins of ancient Aegina, the first coins of ancient Greece).

Other small islands in the area are Dorousa (southwest of Agistri), Kyra (northwest of Dorousa), rocky Spalathronisi (west of Kyra), and Aponisos (west of Agistri).

How to Get There

Metopi is easily accessible by private boat.

Small ferryboats link Aegina with Metopi and other small islands: Moni, the Diaporia islands, Kyra, Dorousa, and Spalathronisi. (Boats head to Moni from the village of Perdika on Aegina, as well as starting from the island’s main town.)
