Getting Around the Island

Road Network

Mykonos has a fairly extensive, dense road network, but it is not in good condition. The roads are narrow, and there is generally no roadside parking, since walled-in yards often extend right up to the road. Heavy traffic, including many trucks, makes the situation even more difficult. Signs indicating the borders and precise location of settlements may also be misleading, so drivers need to be attentive.

To explore Chora (the island’s main town), leave your vehicle in the municipal parking lot next to the settlement’s old port. There are many car and motorbike rental agencies in Chora.

In general, drivers on the island must be very careful (especially those driving a motorcycle or bicycling).

Unlike most Cycladic islands, Mykonos does not have a network of footpaths. The paths it used to have disappeared during dense construction and touristic development. Access to various points on the island (including some beaches) is now limited by fences, houses, and buildings that constantly create obstacles for walkers.

Other Transportation

KTEL Mykonos (https://mykonosbus.com) has 26 buses to meet the needs of the island's residents and visitors.

The boats of (Delos Tours) transport visitors from Mykonos to Delos and back at regular intervals, setting off from the old port of Mykonos. Tourist boats also head to the island of Rhenia (also spelled Rhenea or Rineia), with its wonderful beaches.
