Sikinos - Useful Information

How to Get There

Traveling by ferry from the port of Piraeus, it will take about 8 to 11 hours to reach the port of Sikinos, depending on the stops at other islands. The approximate price for an adult without a discount is 36 euros, while the price is 82 euros for a car, one way. Local routes connect Sikinos with other islands of the Cyclades, such as Folegandros, Ios, Santorini, and Naxos. More information on schedules and reservations is available at www.digitickets.gr.

Road Network

Sikinos has one main road that connects the port of Alopronia with Chora. That road intersects with the road that heads to the beach of Agios Georgios. After Chora, the road continues for a few more kilometers to the winery and the monument of Episkopi. These are the only paved routes on the island, and even in the village of Alopronia you may encounter challenging dirt roads or badly made roads. In the settlements of Chora, Kastro, and Chorio, vehicle access is prohibited. You can park your car on the main road that passes outside the settlements and visit them on foot.

There is a car and motorcycle rental shop in the Port in Alopronia.

Other Means of Transport

A local bus runs between Alopronia, Chora and Episkopi. The services are quite frequent in the summer months, and there is always a connection to ships arriving at the port.

There are some routes you can follow on foot, especially to the beaches, but the trail markings are insufficient, so it is advisable to do it with the help of a local.

Useful Tips

3. For maritime transport and travel to distant beaches, Dimitris’s boat leaves the port of Alopronia daily. Tel. 6937-261800.

5. A path that you can follow is the one leading from Kastro to the beach of Malta. It starts at the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, passes near the heliport, and continues downhill to the beach. The total distance is 6.5 kilometers; it takes about two hours.
