Walk in the Chestnut Forest of Kertezi

One of our favorite experiences was a visit to the very picturesque village of Kertezi and our exploration of its lovely natural surroundings.

Kertezi is a beautiful village, with references to the settlement going back to 1402. Built in a valley in the foothills of Mount Kallifoni, it stands out for its rich natural offerings (wild chestnut trees, fir trees, water and rivers) and also for its churches (with more of them than any other village in Kalavryta).

Walk through the wild chestnut forest that surrounds the village, and you will be charmed by its magic. You can combine this walk with a visit to the little church of Zoodochos Pigi, which stands alone on a hilltop, overlooking the village from the east. We reach it by following a scenic forest path through the chestnut forest of Kertezi for about 30 minutes.

We will enjoy a lush fir forest that charms us and touches our senses if we take the forest road to Kallifoni from Kertezi. The road ends in a pass at 1,475 meters, by a stone fountain. Ascending, we will also see the Three women (or Treis Gynaikes, pronounced treess yee-ne-kess, in Greek)--the three mountain peaks in a row across from the massif of Kallifoni above Kertezi.
