Info

The conical hill east of the town of Kalavryta is dominated by the Castle of Oria, seat of the baron of Kalavryta (Othon de Tournay, 1208). Today little remains. A number of researchers believe that the acropolis of ancient Cynaetha was located on this site. It is worth going up to the castle for the experience, and even more for the panoramic view of the town of Kalavryta that we can enjoy from 1,118 meters altitude.

Visit to Kalavryta Castle - Oria Castle

The conical hill east of the town of Kalavryta is dominated by the Castle of Oria, seat of the baron of Kalavryta (Othon de Tournay, 1208). Today little remains. A number of researchers believe that the acropolis of ancient Cynaetha was located on this site. It is worth going up to the castle for the experience, and even more for the panoramic view of the town of Kalavryta that we can enjoy from 1,118 meters altitude.

We can get to it by following a path that starts just after the small church of Saint Athanasios (on its right side). The climb takes about 20 minutes and involves an ascent of moderate difficulty, given the 140 meter change in altitude.

Left of Saint (Agios) Athanasios church, we find the beginning of a very beautiful fir-covered forest road that passes below the west side of the castle of Oria and ends after 6 kilometers of forest path in beautiful Vrachni (at Saint Athanasios of Vrachni).
