ATTIKI, SPETSES

Spetses offers many lovely excursions, either on foot or by bike or by motor bike (cars are forbidden). Due to the island's small size, you can thoroughly explore it within a week.

Exploring Spetses

The island of Spetses is ideal for many beautiful excursions, either on foot, by bike, or by motorbike (since cars are prohibited). The small size of the island makes it easy to explore it quite well in a week. In addition to its major attractions, we recommend the following routes, which combine an experience of the island, physical exercise, and enjoyment of nature and the sea.

Tour of Spetses

Perhaps the most enjoyable way to fully experience Spetses is to tour the island by whatever means you prefer. We recommend biking or walking (especially on moonlit nights). The road, which is now all asphalt, is 24 km long, with many hills. Learn more about the tour here.

The Mountain Hike

As enjoyable as the tour of Spetses is the mountain hike which starts at the church of Panagia Elonas (the Virgin Mary of Elonas) and ends in Vrellos after traversing the interior of the island and passing through its highest point (at 245 m), Profitis Ilias (the Prophet Elias, or Elijah). Learn more about the tour here.

A Stroll in the Old Port

One of the prettiest and most popular walks on the island is the path from Agios Mamas to the Old Port and from there to the lighthouse of Spetses . The distance to the Old Port is two kilometers. The route is idyllic , next to the sea , and passing some of the nicest and largest mansions of Spetses. At night the road is illuminated as needed; no motorized vehicles travel there, and you see traditional carriages coming and going, carrying people to and from the Old Port. Learn more about the tour here.

A Walk in Scholes

The second classic coastal walk in Spetses heads from Poseidonio to Scholes. The total journey to Scholes is 1,600 meters. Learn more about the tour here.

The Monasteries of Spetses

There are two monasteries on Spetses: the Moni ton Agion Panton (All Saints' Monastery), above the area of Agia Marina, and the Moni tis Panagias tis Gorgoepikoou (Monastery of the Fast-Hearing Virgin Mary), above the All Saints' Monastery. The All Saints' Monastery is about 2 kilometers east of the Bastion, and the Monastery of the Fast-Hearing Virgin is in the same direction, 1,100 meters southwest of the All Saints' Monastery, and higher up. Learn more about the tour here.
