Caldera - Lakki

The impressive flat basin of the volcano caldera in Lakki. We can distinguish the ryodakite dome that hosts the hydrothermal craters (Alexandros, Miktro and Megalo Polyvotis and Logothetis). In the center is the phreatic funnel of Stefanos and in the distance NW the houses of Emporios are visible. The wide variety of flora that has been recorded makes the island the only green active volcano in the Aegean Sea. During the most recent volcanic activity of 1873-1877, the flora in the crater area was completely destroyed. Today, the vegetation of the area thrives on soil formed from volcanic products of the caldera.
