How to get to Kastellorizo

The Kastellorizo island is connected to the port of Piraeus with non-daily ferry routes due to the long distance (370 nautical miles from Piraeus). The routes are operated by conventional vessels of Blue Star Ferries, and the journey takes approximately 22 hours. Given the duration of the trip, booking a cabin is essential and should be made at least three months before your planned trip to ensure availability.

The port is located in the island’s only settlement. Bringing a car is unnecessary as distances are very short and can be covered on foot, by sea transport, or by taxi. For more information on schedules and reservations, visit www.digitickets.gr.

Kastellorizo also has an airport and is connected to Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" via Rhodes. The journey lasts 2.5 to 4 hours, depending on the layover time in Rhodes, and ticket prices vary by season.

Transportation

The island is very small and has a single asphalt road approximately 2.5 kilometers long, starting from the port and ending at the airport. From there, it continues as a dirt road southeast for 2.6 kilometers, leading to the monastic complex of Saint George of the Mountain.

Other Means of Transportation

Kastellorizo has a taxi station. For sea excursions and visits, you can rent sea taxis or follow the schedule of excursion boats (for visits to the Blue Caves, the islet of Saint George, and the islet of Ro).

Useful Tips

1. Kastellorizo is isolated from the rest of Greece, located 71 nautical miles from the nearest island, Rhodes. For this reason, transportation from here to the other Dodecanese islands can be challenging. In contrast, the coast of Asia Minor and the Turkish city of Kas are just 1.2 nautical miles away. Due to the short distance from Turkey, many tourist boats arrive daily during the summer from the opposite side, bringing visitors.

2. Besides the ferry from Piraeus, Kastellorizo is connected to Rhodes by sea with routes operated by SAOS Ferries, which serves the local route to Rhodes.
