Due to the arid nature of the island, the inhabitants' drinking water needs were covered by rain cisterns. On the north and west sides of the acropolis, two monumental cisterns have been carved into the rock to collect rainwater, with stairs leading down to clean them. The first, with a diameter of 5.40m. and a depth of 5.20m., is located at the top of the steep hill. A vaulted roof was placed on the second cistern in a later period. Scattered throughout the area are numerous (99 are reported) smaller cisterns lined with kurosani.
