Going up the road from the port to the Castle, we will see small signs pointing to the island's archaeological museum. The museum building itself is part of the medieval castle (the ground floor), while the first floor is a 19th century addition. The museum exhibits findings from ancient Megisti, sculptures from the early Christian period, the removed frescoes of Agios Nikolaos (a church to the west of the castle) while a separate room is dedicated to the island's folklore. Although opening hours are listed, you must contact the phone number outside the entrance for someone to come and open the door for you.
