Tower by the Church of Saint George

To the right and below the point (at the closed gate) where the path to the church of Saint Thekla ascends straight ahead, the longest numbered path on the island, Path 8, begins. After 6.8 kilometers, it ends at the gorgeous beach of Sykamia. The path is wide (although it narrows as we approach Karavas) and easy to follow, but especially at the beginning there are a number of spots that are overgrown with vegetation. After 1,000 meters, we will discern the whitewashed chapel of Saint George (Agios Georgios) farther down. We can reach it by continuing on for another 600 meters. From here the trail descends to the right toward the beautiful beach of Karavas (for another 1,350 meters). Next to the church of Saint George, there are low stone structures; one circular structure seems to be the base of a tower with a low entrance and large oblong stones near the bottom.
