The only church in Elaiochori, near Itylo, is built on the site of an old Byzantine church. It is nicknamed 'Passavas' after a small castle built in the area by Villehardouin around 1250 to control the right of way. The church is dedicated to the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (Kimisi tis Theotoku) but celebrates her birth (Gennesio tis Theotoku) on September 8.
